May your mind ever dwell on auspicious thoughts!
This book is about the power of the mind. Not the power of the ordinary mind, but that of the Supreme mind. Within it’s pages Rajivji clearly describes the functioning of the mind, and how an ordinary mind can be transformed into an extremely powerful and potent “Supreme Mind”. The content of the book is based on the Siva Sankalpa Suktam section of six verses that come from the most ancient scripture known to mankind – the Rig Veda.
Suktam means hymns or verses in the praise of God, or Guru or any Deity. But here in these verses, the praise is of the Mind – that mind which can attain anything through will, intention or sankalpa. Siva is also added to the title. It means that the desire or intention of the mind must be backed by right intention. When the intentions are Siva-like, which means focused, meditative, benevolent, all-inclusive, and yet with a sense of detatchment, then the resolve (intention), or sankalpa becomes powerful, and auspicious. Combination keys are given by Rajivji within the text so that we can open up the hidden treasures within us that allow the supreme power that lies withinin the mind of each of us to manifest.
A new page dedicated to Rajivji’s translation and commentary on Sri Ramana’s Upadesa Saram has been added to the website. On the page is a PDF download of the text, an embedded copy that can be read online, and four videos that review each path described in the text. Each of Rajivji’s other books will receive similar treatment in the near future.
Upadesa Saram was chosen as the first book to be updated because of its important signifigance and its clear explanation of Ramana Maharishi’s core teachings. The following is a description of the text and link to the page:
In this definitive translation and commentary on the text, Rajivji deciphers the deep truths found in Upadesa Saram. Rajivji’s commentary makes Sri Ramana’s teachings easy to understand for seekers of all paths and stages of spiritual development. The books contains thirty verses on the essential teaching of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharishi. Within the text, Sri Ramana describes the practices and benefits found on the four paths to liberation: Karma, Bhakti, Raja, and Jnana Yoga.
The story of Upadesa Saram originates with the famous Tamil poet, Muruganar. Muruganar was composing a poem about a group of ancient ascetics who were performing rituals in the Daruka Forest in order to obtain special powers to fulfill their worldly desires. They believed that Karma Yoga was the highest path towards liberation. Lord Shiva, seeing their ignorance, manifested in Daruka Forest to offer them the right instruction (upadesa) in order to achieve liberation. Once Muruganar reached this point in his poem, he realized that he did not possess the knowledge to explain Lord Shiva’s teaching to the ascetics. Only Muruganar’s guru, Sri Ramana, possessed that knowledge being himself an embodiment of Lord Shiva. Muruganar then prayed to Sri Ramana to reveal the essence of the teachings that he had himself given to the ascetics in Daruka Forest. In response, Sri Ramana produced the Tamil text Upadesa Unidyar, which he then translated into Sanskrit as Upadesa Saram.
